Although the beaches and the sun are one of the biggest attraction in Puerto de la Cruz there are also many other attractions here such as the museums that you can go and see.
The town's archaeological museum is the Museo Arqueologico Municipal . It is very close to the Plaza del Charco; only a few hundred meters away. The museum is housed in a 19 th century-style mansion. The museum began its operations in 1991. The exhibits include collections of aboriginal handicrafts and ceramics, old 17 th century maps, and other interesting arcane.
La Casa Iriarte was the home of the Iriarte family, a prominent member of which was the renowned writer of fables, Tomas de Iriarte y Nieves-Ravelo (1750-1791). The house is an excellent example of 18 th century Canarian architecture. The house's ground floor shelters a lace museum, while a naval museum can be found upstairs. The naval museum contains interesting naval artefacts, scale-model ships, and much historical information. In the hills on the outskirts of town, one can find the Jardin Botanico ( Botanical Garden ). Definitely a world-class botanical garden, it was first built in 1788. It is a well visited tourist spot.
